Selection Criteria

it's OUR time

We're on a national search for young people passionate about ending global poverty, and dedicated to taking action.

If this describes you, then we want you on board!

Age: All applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 26 during period beginning May 8th and ending May 15th.

Nationality: There is no nationality requirement for those participating in the program.

Occupation:: Applicants could be doing anything - you could be at university, school, work full time or not work at all.

Cost:: Each applicant must commit to paying the $350 registration fee. Over 70 half scholarships and 20 full scholarships are available for those who would otherwise not be able to attend. You can apply for a scholarship as a part of your application, however please think carefully about your level of need before applying. If you do apply for a scholarship, then you must clearly demonstrate in detail why the scholarship is necessary - unfortunately "I'm a poor uni student" won't be good enough.

Time Commitment:: The road trip requires that you be able to attend the entire road trip (May 8th - 15th) as well as up to three training sessions on the weekends leading up to the road trip. You should carefully consider your ability to attend all of these. Note also that the Road Trip is occurring outside of university or school holidays. With careful planning on your own behalf this should not prove too much of a challenge, as significant numbers of both university and school students have already made the appropriate arrangements. Email us at roadtrip@theoaktree.org if you have any queries about how best to prepare for a week out of school or university at this time.

Strong Applicants will display one or more of the follwing: A passion for the cause, demonstrated over time; a history of taking action against poverty (or a similar issue like human rights or climate change) over time; a willingness to take more significant action in the future; a history of leadership roles at school, university or otherwise; a history of community engagement; a history of utilising unique skills for the broader community; and finally a desire to take a step up and take on further leadership roles in the fight to end extreme poverty.
